Hirohiko Araki

This is a short timeline of Hirohiko Araki's start and seminal works throughout the last 50+ years. We learn of his style as an artist as well as his permeation throughout culture in Japan and the rest of the world.

1960

Japan: A legend is born in Sendai, Miyagi. Leading a modest life, but always living with a passion for writing and drawing manga.

1980

After many trials and tribulations and even dropping out of the Miyagi University of Education he finally had his first manga published, Poker Under Arms.

1983

Another milestone hit, his first serialization in the infamous "Weekly Shounen Jump" with Cool Shock B.T. A short story omnibus about a sherlock holmes inspired miscreant.

1986

JoJo's Bizzare Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood is released, centered around our first of the Joestars, Johnathan Joestar, and his rival, Dio Brando. This manga would prove to be his magnum opus and is still in serialization to this day. From here and onward, Hirohiko would skyrocket into fame.

1989

The iconic JoJo's Bizzare Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders began its serialization. Many consider this set of volumes to be where the series actually took off. It would shape the narrative and theme of other stories of this venture for years to come due to his introduction of "stands", user controlled abilities that take the form of humanoids or other anthropomorphics.

1993

A Super Famicon (Japanese Super Ninento Entertainment System) game is released based on Stardust Crusaders entitled JoJo's Bizzare Adventure RPG. This is his first of many crossovers into the realm of the videogame industry.

2000

The first attempt at a JoJo Bizzare Adventure OAV, this would also depict the story of Stardust Crusaders.

2003

The formation of "JoJo's Posing School". A fanclub dedicated to re-enacting the iconic and wild poses of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure.

2007

20th Anniversary of JoJo Bizzare Adventure ! Hirohiko Araki gives a presentation at Tohoku University for the previously mentioned posing school.

2009

An incredible moment for fans of his work, and for his career. Hirohiko is invited to present an exhibit at the prestigious Lourve in Paris, France. This exhibit displays his work: Rohan At the Louvre, a character with their own set of spin-offs originating from his JoJo Bizzare Adventure series.

2011

Another seminal moment for both the clothing industry and for fans of his manga, the Gucci X Hirohiko Araki X Spur crossover event. This was a 3 way collaboration between Gucci the clothing company, Spur, a woman's fashion magazine, and Hirohiko.

2012

The 25th anniversary of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, with it came the start of a resurgence for this series: JoJo's Bizzare Adventure Anime. This series is often referred to as JJBA 2012 due to the original being released in 2000. This variant of the show is a full re-telling of the entirety of the Manga, starting with part 1 and currently animated up until part 4 which had its release in 2016.

2015

A foray into another medium, his previous work "under execution under jailbreak" is given a stage play adaptation.

2018

Likely his largest exhibit yet, Hirohiko will present his work at The National Art Center in Tokyo to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure.
